Lamoureux’s wood carvings include duck decoys; and carvings of waterfowl, songbirds, game birds, shorebirds, fish and ice-fishing lures. Utilizing his original art, he developed a line of wildlife home and office decor, which includes waterfowl art, bird and fish prints, note cards and gifts. Individuals interested in a preview of his some of the wood carvings that will be displayed at the library may visit www.woodduckpress.com.

He explains, “I can only create about six to eight pieces a year carving as a hobby. But after 20 years of carving, we are finding fewer places in the house to put these originals! I decided to start photographing the collection in 2003, which led to the creation of my internet art site known as WoodDuck Press.

Lamoureux’s love of wood carving was fostered in his youth while he was involved in scouting. At an early age, he learned to whittle his own neckerchief slides, and his hobby grew from that point on. In 1984, his fascination with carving had a rebirth when he began carving decoys after visiting a waterfowl festival on the eastern shore of Maryland. Lamoureux soon joined a carving club in Northern Virginia and began to enter his art in competitions throughout the Mid-Atlantic region.

Lamoureux uses a variety of woods for his carvings including basswood, tupelo, butternut, black walnut, oak, white cedar and pine. Spreading his hobby out over many days of carving, he could easily have well over 100 hours invested in each creation.

At the invitation of The Friends of the Brentwood Library, Lamoureux’s works will be on display throughout the two months during regular hours at the Brentwood Public Library, located at 8109 Concord Road in Brentwood. For hours and directions, please call 371-0090, or visit the website at http://www.brentwood-tn.org/Library/location.htm.

Lamoureux formed Lamoureux Properties in 1993 to develop commercial real estate in the greater Nashville area, and continues to be a leader in the commercial development marketplace.

Active in the community, Lamoureux served as chairman of the Brentwood Cool Springs Chamber of Commerce in 2000. He has been a member of the Brentwood Rotary Club since 1996. He also has been a board member of the Youth Life Learning Center of Tennessee since 2001.
